shared quote

A friend sent this to me the other day, and I thought I would pass it along so that you can think about it too:

"In defense of my opening my soul and laying it bare to the public gaze in this fashion, I may say that it seems to me that we seldom do anything much good excepting as we share the deepest experiences of our souls in this way. It is not the fashion to tell your inmost thoughts, but there are many wrong fashions; and concealment of the best in us is wrong. I disapprove of the usual practice of talking 'small talk' whenever we meet, and holding a veil over our souls. If we are so impoverished that we have nothing to reveal but small talk, then we need to struggle for more richness of soul. As for me, I am convinced that this spiritual pilgrimage which I am making is infinitely worthwhile, the most important thing I know of to talk about. And talk I shall while there is anybody to listen... open your soul and entertain the glory of God, and after a while that glory will be reflected in the world about you and in the very clouds above your head." --Frank Laubach

my thoughts... i want my soul to be rich and my conversations to be deep. i'm not sure i really could lay my soul bare to anyone. plus, i'm not sure i know what "the deepest experiences" of my soul are. i know i want to change though because i don't want to settle for where i am or for the status quo or for small talk. i want to be known. and i want to know the right times for that and the how to's for that. and according to this quote, it's the glory of God that makes it all happen, that fills in the blanks, that moves me beyond where i am right now. and even if i am wrong in how i took that (because i very well may be wrong), i still know and believe that only God can work this out in me. and i can always trust Him to grow me, change me, hear me, love me, let me be me, answer me, and hold me, and everything else He does! so amen.
